I am a medical and social historian and author and I believe in making history accessible to all.
My interest in medical matters is in my blood: my paternal grandmother was a woman who birthed babies and laid people out ready for burial; and on my mother's side my ancestors were named Leech (from the Saxon "Laece" meaning healer).
As a Medical Historian I strive to bring academic rigour (I am a graduate of Cardiff, Birmingham and Staffordshire Universities, and hold the Diploma in Medical History from the Worshipful Society of Apothecaries, of which I am a Fellow), to my displays and presentations so all aspects have been thoroughly researched using primary and secondary sources. Thus  clients and audiences are receiving the most accurate information.
I have been the resident medieval surgeon for Tewkesbury Medieval Festival for a number of years and regularly appear at  The Commandery Worcester; Ludlow Castle, among others, and a number of community historical festivals. I have also worked for the National Trust, CADW and English Heritage.
I am the author of  a number of books and articles on aspects of medical history ranging from arrow wounds to body snatching and grave robbing.
I have appeared in a number of documentaries, including  "Mystic Britain": "Leeches, Plagues and Potions"; "The Great Plague" and "The Black Death" for Channel 5; "Ancient Autopsies" for ; Channel 4;  for HIstory Hit and the History Channel .
